茅台酒以本地优质糯高梁为主料，小麦制成高温曲为糖化发酵剂，引赤水河水为酿造用水，重阳下沙、端午踩曲，再历经两次投料、九次蒸煮、八次发酵、七次取酒，一年一个周期后，酿制而成的基酒还需在陶坛中经过三年以上的贮存。最后采用以酒勾酒的方式将一百余种不同酒龄、不同香型、不同轮次、不同酒度等各有特色的基酒进行组合，形成典型风格的茅台酒成品，全部生产过程近五年之久。
