要
早期的KC一直保持着半年一张的发行速度，不知道是怎么在这么快的同时兼顾质量的。在1970年底，第三张专辑《Lizard》就问世了。这张的主唱兼贝斯由上张作品中亮相的Gordon Haskell来接替Greg Lake，他是Fripp的同学，喜欢布鲁斯和民谣。但也正是因此，他在和乐队共事的过程中发觉自己和KC的爵士、前卫倾向有些格格不入，在录完这张专辑之后就离开了。《Cirkus》中木管的部分由上张就出现的客座乐手Mel Collins担任，之后的《Island》、《Red》中萨克斯的部分也由他完成。虽然中间也有长时间的退出，不过他至今仍在KC担任这一职务，某种意义上成了陪伴Fripp时间最长的乐队成员。
《Lizard》的混录和其他后期工作均由Fripp自己完成，但是他自己似乎对这一张相当不满意。他直言这张作品是“难以入耳的”，并称喜欢这张的乐迷都是些“奇怪的人”。不过他似乎一直没搞懂自己到底不喜欢它哪里，原以为是不喜欢Sinfield浓度过高的文青气质，直到40年后他听到了由Steven Wilson混录的四十周年纪念版才直呼真香（"For the first time I have heard the Music in the music"）。
如上图，这张专辑的封套设计由Gini Barris完成。受Sinfield的委托，她很细致地画了数幅离散的图像，并将这些画嵌入了“KING CRIMSON”几个中世纪风格花纹的大字母中（不知为何我看着这些精致的花纹更像中东地区的细密画），其中封底的“KING”分别对应着同名组曲《Lizard》四个部分的场景，而封面的“CRIMSON”则是前四首中的曲目（其中“I”画的是披头士，对应专辑中的第三首歌《Happy Family》）。和歌词一样，这些图画也是时空错乱而又互有微妙联系的，比如在字母“N”的画中天空上有一个小熊的图案，这是鲁珀特熊的标志。这是英国儿童文化的一个重要形象，同时也暗指《Lizard》中鲁珀特亲王。

译后记
这次的译后记我尽量写得简短一些，因为对第三首歌需要添置大量的注释，因此便不在这里过多讲述我个人的翻译体验和主观感受了。原本以为翻译这张的难点在于胡话诗《Indoor Games》和最后的大组曲《Lizard》，但在查阅了鲁珀特亲王的资料以及网易云参考了宋教仁的译本之后翻译过程轻松了不少。
真正最让我头疼的还是《Happy Family》，这次鸽了这么长时间主要原因就在此。这首暗喻披头士解散的歌在诡异中藏着一丝幽默，歌词在童谣般的可爱外表下也极尽晦涩。歌谣中暗指的不少事情今天已经无从考证，从四方查阅资料后才勉强解读出的这些东西。而且强悍的Sinfield在做如此大密度的隐喻的同时还极其兼顾格律，不仅押韵而且格式工整，读起来简直和七言诗没什么区别，实在是让人不得不佩服他的文字能力。
