pendragon经历了九十年代伟大的四部曲：世界、生命之窗、化装舞会和不属于这个世界之后（它们都是基于吉他为核心的交响前卫之作，非常大气而优美），乐队迫切需要改变。而核心巴雷特的家庭问题可能也使得九十年代他们的一种乐观精神改变了，这在不属于这个世界中已经有所展现。Not Of This World正是对立于The World的，光明、乐观、积极的主题被一种怀疑、担忧和愤怒所取代。而在之后，他们不仅仅从歌词主题上进行了改变，而且从音乐上也发生了重大变化，过去的纯粹交响前卫式的新前卫已经没有了，pendragon增添了更多的元素，比如重型金属，电子音乐，民谣和世界音乐，当然还有pop的感觉。在这一阶段他们的作品主要有三个：believe、pure和passion。在我看来pure是最纯熟的作品，一切都很平衡，而passion显得有些过于流行了，过于想要别出心裁，结果过犹不及。而最差的作品应该是第一张的试水之作believe。《相信》虽然名为相信\信仰，但是主题粗略看来确实讨论不信仰者，他们怀疑这个世界的一切，质疑是否一切都是虚假和邪恶的。他们说这个世界不适合无辜和单纯的信仰者，我们所信仰的很可能都是虚假的。pendragon在这一阶段变得很不天真，而在主题中增加了许多抨击社会、政治、实事以及意识形态的内容，虽然显得有些“高级”和“有逼格”，不过看上去意图有些模糊，有种过于装逼的嫌疑。就音乐来说，在believe中，他们没有将各种元素结合的很好，只是试图这么做，但太刻意了，导致pendragon原本的优势发挥不出，有无法真正的走入折衷的前卫领域。《believe》中几乎没有一首能让人惊叹的歌曲，不过这并不重要， 一切都在pure中被弥补了。
